Kospi stumbled at the 8,000 line, and I chose to just watch

Kospi slipped 1.28% today while Kosdaq actually climbed 1.30% — a split that only makes sense once you look at who was buying and selling. On the Kospi side, foreigners sold about 176 billion won and institutions bought back 248 billion, but that wasn't enough to offset the selling pressure, while on Kosdaq both foreigners and institutions were net sellers yet the index still rose, which tells me retail money was doing the heavy lifting there. Everyone seems to be holding their breath for next week's Jackson Hole meeting and Nvidia's earnings before deciding whether Kospi can reclaim the 8,000 line, and that wait-and-see mood explains why Kospi drifted lower today without any single obvious trigger. Sector-wise, gold and copper names were strong while cybersecurity stocks lagged, which reads like money quietly tiptoeing toward hard assets ahead of a big event rather than any panic. The bigger backdrop is a market that feels calm on the surface while the real economy data keeps losing steam underneath, so I'd chalk today's dip up to pre-event pause rather than the start of something new. Given all that, I didn't add a single position today — I'm content to just watch until the picture gets clearer.
