The Day KOSPI Smiled and KOSDAQ Cried, I Picked Up KT
KOSPI climbed 1.05% today while KOSDAQ just sank 4.55%, and once I traced the money, the split made sense. Foreigners poured over 1.7 trillion won into KOSPI alone while pulling back from KOSDAQ, and with semiconductor exports nearly doubling this month, it's not hard to guess they chased the big exporters. KOSDAQ had it rough on top of that - cybersecurity names got hammered, and news of Hyundai's union walking out for a full-day strike for the first time in a decade, shutting plants down, didn't exactly help small-cap nerves. Meanwhile gold miners and biotech lived in a different world, riding the wave after Merck and Moderna's cancer vaccine trial success lit up biotech sentiment everywhere, Korea included. Zooming out, rates and credit conditions still look friendly and the broader market feels calm, so I'm reading today's KOSDAQ dip as a local squall rather than a real trend shift. In that spirit I added KT (030200) to my paper book today - just logging my own move here, nothing more.
