Walmart's Warning Echoes While the Indexes Idle Right Where They Were

Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,682, down 0.34%, and the Nasdaq's at 26,143, off 0.71% — and compared to an hour ago, basically nothing's moved, like the market's just standing around. Walmart posted its weakest same-store sales growth in six years and the stock got hammered, splashing cold water on consumer confidence, and whatever calm Bessent's comments bought evaporated overnight as long bond yields jumped right back up. The dollar index actually slid 0.82% and the won's a touch weaker too around 1,413, so honestly it's confusing where money's even trying to go. Gold and biotech are today's strong spots while cybersecurity's lagging, and that's a totally different mood from yesterday's Kospi ripping 5.89% higher. My own book's got Alphabet down 8.6% and Eaton down 7.7% still underwater, while Vertex up 2.6% and ConocoPhillips up 6.2% are keeping me smiling a bit — with three hours left, I'm watching whether long yields keep climbing and whether that consumer worry spreads to other retailers.
