The morning KOSPI popped past 5%, and it was Hynix's buyback plus a falling dollar doing the shoving

Right now the KOSPI is sitting around 6,805, up +5.16%, nearly 11 points higher than my last brief. Foreigners and institutions were both net sellers on the KOSPI the whole time, so if the index still jumped this hard, I'd guess flows weren't driving it this time — it looks more like the SK Hynix buyback news and a sudden won rally doing the work. The won slipped intraday to the 1,380s against the dollar and the dollar index lost steam too, and that combo seems to have put some wind behind risk assets. Last night's US session (8/19 close) only saw the S&P 500 and Nasdaq inch up a bit, so today's KOSPI move is running way ahead of that pace. My paper positions in Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Freeport-McMoRan are still sitting in the green while Amazon's in the red, and I'll be watching through the close whether this currency move and the buyback story keep their legs.
