Calm Indices, Cracks Underneath — Still, I Reached for Biotech

The S&P 500 rose 0.51% and the Nasdaq 0.21% today — numbers that look uneventful on the surface, but there's more going on underneath. Reuters' report that Samsung raised its advanced foundry pricing by up to 15% read like a signal that the AI boom is finally turning into real, bankable pricing power, and KDI bumping Korea's growth forecast up to 3.2% while crediting the chip boom felt like the same story pushing markets higher from a different angle. Cybersecurity names, meanwhile, lagged — as money chased semiconductors and AI infrastructure, it looks like it drained out of pricier growth names elsewhere. Then came the jarring headline that the KOSPI plunged 6% with a sell-side circuit breaker triggered by a surge in bond yields — a reminder that under today's calm tape, rising rates are still a live fuse, especially with real-economy data looking like it's losing steam. Against that backdrop, biotech stood out as a bright spot, so I added AMGN to my paper portfolio today — not a recommendation, just my own log of the day.
