Treasury's buyback news cools rates, chips bounce back — New York's quietly in the green
Right now the S&P 500 is sitting around 7,715, up 0.30%, and the Nasdaq's near 26,310, up 0.08% — a calm little climb for just after the open. The gain's bigger than what I saw at the pre-dawn check-in, and that's thanks to the Treasury doubling down on its long-bond buyback, which pulled yields down and sent futures jumping across the board. Yesterday's beaten-down chip stocks are joining the bounce too — Marvell popped 12% on news it's landing broad AI-chip work from Google. Sector-wise, energy and gold miners are leading while cybersecurity names lag, and honestly, after watching the Kospi get hammered -5.80% last night, today's US mood feels like a completely different animal. On my book, Microsoft's unrealized gain is still sitting fat at +22.3%, and ConocoPhillips, Vertex, and Schlumberger are all holding green too. Into the close, I'm watching whether this chip rebound has real legs and whether the bond-market tailwind carries through the afternoon.
