Bond Yields Spike, Tech Stocks Take the Hit — Nasdaq's Slide Deepens
Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,694.92 (-0.65%) and the Nasdaq at 26,293.99 (-1.32%), both still sliding with about an hour and fifty minutes left before the close — and the drop's gotten steeper since my last brief (S&P down another 0.15pt, Nasdaq another 0.27pt). Long-term Treasury yields keep climbing on Middle East tension and inflation worries, and tech stocks are taking it on the chin — copper/minerals and cybersecurity names are soft while energy and real estate are holding up strong. Korea's market already showed the cracks yesterday (8/18 close), KOSPI down 1.55% and KOSDAQ down 3.52%, and today's Nasdaq looks like it's picking up right where that left off. Among my holdings, I'm just quietly logging where things stand — Microsoft +22.0%, NVIDIA +3.3%, Freeport-McMoRan +5.1%, Pungsan +16.4%. With an hour and fifty left, whether yields keep climbing or cool off here is the thing to watch into the close.
