Rate-Snagged Day, But I Still Loaded Up on CEG
The S&P 500 slipped 0.40% and the Nasdaq eased 0.29% today. The headline story running through the market was big tech financing its AI buildout with debt, pushing long-term rates higher — flip the old 'crowding out' script where government spending squeezed private investment, and now it's Big Tech's borrowing doing the squeezing on everything else. That pressure showed up clearest in cybersecurity, which sagged under rate sensitivity, while quantum computing and AI names shrugged it off and kept climbing on their own merits — so this wasn't a broad selloff, just capital sorting out where it wants to sit. Zooming out, the overall mood stayed calm and rate/credit conditions still look friendly, which tells me today's dip reads more like noise from the AI-borrowing story than any real trend break. Against that backdrop I added CEG to the book — if AI's power appetite is the root of this whole rate conversation, it made sense to plant a flag on the side actually supplying that electricity. That's the entry for today; tomorrow's picture will look different again.
