Tech Jitters Deepen the Slide, Only Quantum & AI Hold the Line
Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,754.35 (-0.40%) and the Nasdaq at 26,638.75 (-0.34%), and both have actually dug their losses deeper as the afternoon rolls on. Compared with my brief an hour and a half ago, both indices slipped further, and it feels like the ECB's warning that "US tech looks like the old boom-bust pattern again" is the weight sitting on the tape. Even with the market now fully leaning toward the Fed staying on hold through year-end, that relief hasn't been enough to stop tech from giving ground back — quantum computing and AI names are still holding firm, while cybersecurity alone has slumped. My paper P&L stands where it's stood: Alphabet -8.2%, Eaton +0.8%, Vertex -2.5%, ConocoPhillips +0.3%, and while Korea's Kospi (8/14) closed up +2.42% on its own tailwind, that warmth clearly hasn't crossed the Pacific today — so into the close I'm watching whether tech keeps sliding or quantum/AI ends up being the floor for the indices.
