Rattled by Iran, Pulled Back Up by AI — Nasdaq's Tug-of-War
Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,774.23, down 0.15%, while the Nasdaq is at 26,760.23, up 0.12% — a mixed picture. News that Iran could turn to military action if diplomacy fails rattled the whole market at the open, but then word that Nvidia is backing OpenAI's Ohio data center lease with $105 billion revived the AI mood and pulled the Nasdaq out of the red. Nasdaq is up 0.13 percentage points from my last brief, so it looks like the AI story is slowly pushing back against the geopolitical weight — and sector-wise right now quantum computing and AI are running strong while cybersecurity lags. Back in the last Korean session (close on 8/14), the Kospi finished up 2.42% and the Kosdaq up 0.38%, but that tailwind hasn't carried over into today's US session, still pinned down by the Iran headlines. My book still has Amazon at -8.9% and Alphabet at -8.1% underwater, while Pungsan holds +18.7% and KT&G +1.0% — for the rest of the session I'm just watching whether the Iran headlines or the AI optimism wins this tug-of-war.
