Nasdaq Slips Deeper as Retail Sales Disappoint

Right now the S&P 500 sits around 7,786, down 0.16%, while the Nasdaq is off 0.39% — both a touch redder than an hour ago. Weak retail sales numbers just dropped and got people whispering about a consumer slowdown, and that hit growth-sensitive corners like copper/minerals and consumer discretionary first. Still, July's consumer price data came in at 3.4%, unchanged from last month, which market folks are reading as inflation expectations holding steady, and with the Fed already on hold, Treasury yields stayed flat and mixed instead of spiking. Cloud and energy names are holding their ground through all this, so it's not a broad meltdown — meanwhile my Amazon and Alphabet positions are still sitting at -7.7% each, same spot as before, nothing new there. Yesterday's Kospi closed up over 2%, so I'm watching whether US stocks carry that warmth through the close, or whether consumer names keep sliding further.
