Slipping Back as Retail Sales Spook the Afternoon
Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,788.67, down 0.13%, and the Nasdaq's off 0.34% at 26,710.59, with a good four hours plus still left on the clock. The dip's gotten a bit deeper since my last check-in, and I'm chalking it up to that ugly July retail sales miss (-0.6%) plus consumer sentiment sliding for the first time in three months. A rate hold next month sounds nice on paper, but it's coming wrapped in worries that consumers are pulling back, so nobody's exactly celebrating. Cloud and energy names are holding up fine while copper/mining and biotech are taking it on the chin, and it's a pretty different vibe from yesterday's KOSPI closing up over 2%. On my own book, HD Hyundai Electric's the lone bright spot at +3.3% while the rest sit in small red, and I'll be watching whether this consumer-spending scare keeps spreading into the close.
