A quiet day, one chip placed on cloud — PANW
The S&P 500 slipped just 0.09% and the Nasdaq 0.21% today — more of a breather than an actual pullback. Nothing decisively pushed the market down and nothing decisively lifted it either; it really came down to which sectors won the day. News that Google keeps plugging more apps into Gemini, plus LG and Nvidia announcing an AI alliance spanning robotics to mobility, kept cloud sentiment propped up, and sure enough cloud names and energy both traded firm, cushioning the index's fall. On the other side, copper and mining names along with biotech sagged and dragged things the other way, so today's tiny dip was really just two forces canceling each other out. With the overall market feeling calm and rate/credit conditions still friendly, I read today's wobble as a pause rather than any turn in the trend. Riding that read, I added Palo Alto Networks (PANW) to my paper book today — my own note-to-self on leaning into the cloud-and-security strength I'm seeing play out.
