A Catch-Your-Breath Open — Cloud Smiles, Biotech Sags

Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,801.78, up 0.04%, and the Nasdaq's at 26,832.80, up 0.11% — still early, feels like the market's just stretching after the open. What stands out is that the gains have shrunk noticeably since the pre-dawn brief (S&P down 0.65pp, Nasdaq down 0.82pp), like some of the earlier enthusiasm cooled off in the meantime. Looking at sectors, cloud and cybersecurity names are smiling while copper/minerals and biotech are dragging, and my Vertex position sitting at -3.6% doesn't look unrelated to that biotech softness. Korea's market closed hot yesterday with the KOSPI up 2.42%, but that heat doesn't seem to have carried straight over to New York, and with rates and credit conditions still friendly, nobody seems in a rush. Into the close, I'll be watching whether cloud and security names can hold their strength and whether the biotech weakness spreads any further.
