The Day Foreigners Poured in 2.8 Trillion — KOSPI Jumped 4%
KOSPI jumped 4.01% today, and it wasn't subtle — foreigners poured in over 2.8 trillion won while institutions chipped in another 500-something billion, both pulling in the same direction. KOSDAQ barely nudged up 0.80% by comparison, and there foreigners and institutions were both selling. Money clearly piled into large caps and skipped the smaller names. Daishin Securities calling out that 'the chip cycle isn't over' didn't feel like empty talk once I saw gold miners and cloud names running while real estate and fintech got left behind. The news that the top five brokerages banked 7.8 trillion won in profit over the first half made today's tape make a lot more sense. Goldman Sachs also chimed in saying the AI spending boom isn't really crowding out other funding, which probably helped keep sentiment up. Word that SCK, the company running Starbucks here, swung to an operating loss was a bit of a downer, but nowhere near enough to dent the mood. With exports and employment still holding the real economy together, today's surge reads less like one-day noise and more like a trend with legs. I let the chip-cycle rebound story pull me in and picked up 058470 today.
