A Quiet Rally Where Gold and Cloud Smiled — I Picked Up XOM
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq climbed a mild 0.28% and 0.64% today, a calm close without much drama. The lift seemed to come mostly from cloud names, and stuff like the leaked Nintendo Switch 2 and Pro Controller images gave gaming and tech a nice little tailwind. Real estate and fintech, though, sat this one out — rate-sensitive corners of the market left behind even as the broader tape ticked higher. The news that Josh Kushner and Bob Iger are buying the Lakers for $12B wasn't the kind of headline that moves markets, but it added a touch of optimism around asset prices in general. With exports and employment still holding up the real economy underneath, today's quiet gain read less like noise and more like a continuation of the steady drift we've been in. Against that backdrop, I tucked XOM into the portfolio today.
