20 Minutes to the Close, and the Losses Are Shrinking — Just Not on the KOSPI

With twenty minutes left in the session, the KOSPI sits at 6,236.82 (-0.95%) and the KOSDAQ at 792.13 (-1.19%). Compared to my 1:40pm brief, the KOSPI has clawed back 0.14 percentage points and the KOSDAQ a full 1.22, so both are picking themselves up off the floor a little. The KOSPI's still weighed down by foreigners dumping 3.2893 trillion won and institutions adding another 121.4 billion won in selling, while the KOSDAQ found its footing because institutions stepped in with 161.5 billion won in buying even as foreigners kept selling there too. Overnight in New York, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both slipped a touch while gold miners and AI names held up (that's the 8/6 close), and the won firmed to 1,421.16 per dollar. My own book still shows Poongsan up 20.8%, KT&G up 8.4%, Samsung Electronics roughly flat at +0.7%, and SK Hynix sitting at -6.4% — going into the close I'm watching whether that KOSDAQ institutional buying keeps holding the line, and whether foreign selling on the KOSPI eases up before the bell.
