Indexes idled, but the real story was underneath

Today the S&P 500 finished flat and the Nasdaq only inched up, but calling the tape quiet would miss what was actually happening. Cloud names and gold miners were doing the heavy lifting while utilities and energy dragged, so the real action was money rotating from one corner of the market to another rather than the index itself moving much. Earnings told an even louder story — AppLovin missed on revenue, guided soft, and got hammered 28% after hours, and even news that the SEC probe was finally closed couldn't undo the damage. Western Digital posted a genuinely strong beat and still sold off, proof that good numbers aren't guaranteeing good price action right now. On top of that, over 900 million SpaceX shares came off lockup today, another reminder that single-stock events were pulling more weight than any broad market theme. Still, with exports and employment holding up and the currency and commodity backdrop staying friendly, the bigger trend still looks intact to me, so I went ahead and added JPM today, leaning on that underlying strength.
