KOSPI Sank to 6,470 at the Open, Then Foreign Buying Flipped It to 6,598

Right now KOSPI is sitting at 6,598.26, up 3.76%, and KOSDAQ's at 799.59, up 2.42%. That's over 4 points higher than where things stood at my last check-in, so this is a completely different tape than the open. Around 9:08 this morning, Samsung dropped 2% and SK hynix fell 5%, dragging KOSPI down to the 6,470 range for a 1%+ decline at the open — but somewhere in those few minutes foreigners poured in over 1.4 trillion won of net buying and flipped the whole index. Wall Street's overnight pause after its recent tear (S&P500 -0.17%, Nasdaq -0.83%) had chip stocks rattled early, but KB Securities calling this the start of a real earnings-driven run for semis seems to be what pulled in the dip buyers, on the idea that profit forecasts are holding up. My Broadcom position is sitting at -0.4%, tracking that same chip-sector mood, while Freeport-McMoRan's still comfortably ahead at +10.9%. Between now and the close, I'm watching whether this foreign buying wave has legs.
