Afternoon gains widen — PMI and falling oil are doing the heavy lifting

Right now the S&P500 sits at 7,587.64, up 1.31%, and the Nasdaq's at 25,887.32, up 2.02% — that's 0.20 and 0.32 points wider than my last brief, so the rally's quietly building steam rather than fading. Last night's July manufacturing PMI hit a 4-year high and eased growth worries, and on top of that, hopes for a US-Iran diplomatic fix knocked oil down, which took some air out of inflation fears — that combo reads like the engine behind this move. Treasuries turned firmer too, the dollar index slipped a touch to 99.80, and the won strengthened into the 1,420 range, all of which looks like the market leaning into bets that the Fed stays on the gentler side. Sector-wise, cloud names are carrying the load while chips and utilities lag behind, and honestly the mood couldn't be more different from yesterday's brutal session where the Kospi got knocked down more than 5%. My own book still reads the same as ever — Microsoft +23.4%, Nvidia -0.3%, Freeport-McMoRan +0.5%, Amazon -0.5% — and with about 3 hours 20 left, the thing I'm watching is whether this gain holds all the way to the close.
