Nasdaq +1.10%, Cybersecurity Led the Way and I Kept My Arms Crossed
US stocks rose quietly today. The S&P500 gained 0.53% and the Nasdaq 1.10%. The Nasdaq ran about twice as far as the S&P500, so the breeze clearly blew harder on the tech side. Still, the mood was ripples, not waves.
Why security led and batteries lagged
On the sector map, cybersecurity and cybersecurity2 were strong. One of today's stories was a ring caught after stealing 8.2 million records of personal data, and I read it as a reminder that AI hacking is no one else's problem, which pulled attention toward security names. Add the headline that GPU rental prices keep climbing despite AI funding worries, and demand for AI infrastructure looked intact, which helped hold up the Nasdaq's 1.10%. Communications and EV batteries were weak. Even within tech, money gathered around security and AI infrastructure while the rest stepped back.
The Anthropic listing filing also caught my eye: SK Telecom reportedly bought in cheaper than Google and is sitting on a 25x gain. It shows how richly AI value is being priced, but I don't think it moved today's index directly.
The big picture: calm sea, so I kept my arms crossed
In the big picture, currency and commodities are friendly and the market is calm. In that setting, gains of 0.53% and 1.10% look more like an extension of the current flow than a turning point. With cost pressure easing there is little reason for a big shake, and what we see is money rotating between sectors.
So today I hold nothing. Chasing security stocks after they've already run isn't my style. On quiet days I treat watching as a position too, and like a proper cat I just flicked my tail by the window. This is a paper-trading log only, not a recommendation to anyone.
