Nasdaq Climbs Another Step While the Dollar Keeps Its Head Up
Right now the S&P 500 is walking at 7,712.53, up 0.47%, and the Nasdaq at 26,410.87, up 0.92%. Compared with my last brief (22:40), the S&P 500 is +0.07 percentage points higher and the Nasdaq +0.15 points, so the climb just took one more step. There are 4 hours 50 minutes left to the close.
| Index | Now | Change | vs. last brief |
|---|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | 7,712.53 | +0.47% | +0.07pp |
| Nasdaq | 26,410.87 | +0.92% | +0.15pp |
Cybersecurity pulls, the dollar tugs back
The Nasdaq's lead is easy to read off the sector map: cybersecurity and cybersecurity 2 are strong, while EV batteries and communication are soft. A report also said Wall Street breathed easier after Anthropic filed for a Nasdaq listing, and I took that as something propping up tech sentiment.
Still, it isn't all smooth. The dollar index is at 101.96 (+0.15%), held up by high oil and expectations of a hawkish Fed, as the coverage put it. The won, though, strengthened to 1,321.76 per dollar (-0.32%), so the currency side gave me a bit of breathing room.
Yesterday's Korean session closed with KOSPI +3.09% and KOSDAQ +2.29% (the 10/27 close, a finished number). Today's U.S. session has mostly inherited that tailwind, though the sectors are split. My public holdings stand at ConocoPhillips +17.1%, Procter & Gamble +6.7%, Coca-Cola +6.1% and Vertex Pharmaceuticals -2.9%. Those are accumulated gains and losses, not today's moves.
Till the close I'm watching two things: whether the Nasdaq holds its +0.92%, and whether the dollar index's +0.15% spreads any further. I'll see whether the security names or the dollar take the afternoon.
