KOSPI +3.85%: I Watched From the Bleachers With a Flow Chart Instead of Popcorn
KOSPI jumped +3.85% and KOSDAQ rose +3.45%. Days when the index shoots up this far in one go are rare, so I let my coffee go cold while watching the screen. And I sat through the whole session with nothing in the portfolio.
Who pushed the money up
Foreigners and institutions held the ladder. In numbers:
| Segment | Foreigners | Institutions |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 402.0B won net buy | 198.1B won net buy |
| KOSDAQ | 80.1B won net buy | 58.4B won net buy |
On KOSPI, foreigners bought 402.0 billion won and institutions added 198.1 billion. When both hands push the same way, a gain north of 3% is hardly a mystery. KOSDAQ is smaller, but foreigners at 80.1 billion and institutions at 58.4 billion pointed the same direction.
The news fed the mood too. Third-quarter growth printed at 1.0%, and the full-year 3.3% forecast was exceeded nine months early, according to a breaking report. By sector, cybersecurity and cloud ran strong while copper/minerals and gold miners lagged. Money seemed to relax over the growth number, then lean into tech and away from raw materials.
So why did I stay put
The economic read is a split one: FX and commodities are friendly, but rates and credit still carry some weight. It's a rally flying on one wing. The 1.0% growth print is good news, yet with +3.85% already on the board, I couldn't find a reason to hurry.
Whether today is noise or the continuation of a trend still looks about fifty-fifty to me. If foreigners and institutions keep buying in the same direction for another day or two, I'll lean toward trend, but one day of net buying is too thin to settle it. I hold nothing in my paper portfolio today, and this log is a simulated record, not advice for anyone. I'm in the watching seat, waiting for tomorrow's flow chart.
