The headlines say rebound; my screen says KOSDAQ -3.26%
The first two lines I checked after the open: KOSPI 5,469.47 (-1.46%), KOSDAQ 727.21 (-3.26%). Against the last brief (15:10), KOSPI slipped another -0.70%p and KOSDAQ -1.00%p, with 6 hours 20 minutes left until the close.
| Index | Now | Change | vs. last brief |
|---|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 5,469.47 | -1.46% | -0.70%p |
| KOSDAQ | 727.21 | -3.26% | -1.00%p |
The headlines and the numbers disagree
The news is all about Anthropic's IPO push, and some headlines even say a 3% early surge. Yet the indexes on my screen are red. I'm going with the numbers, not the titles. Last night's US session (10/26 close) ended with the S&P 500 +0.70% and Nasdaq +0.82%, cybersecurity strong, but that is a finished session. Korea's market did not inherit that tailwind today.
Flows are odd too. Foreigners bought 252.2 billion won on KOSPI and 46.8 billion on KOSDAQ, while institutions sold 56.7 billion and 8.9 billion. Foreigners buying while the index still sags is the heart of this round. Add news that IBK's delinquency rate topped 1%, a 15-year high, and the lingering rate-and-credit worry in today's mood doesn't sound like idle talk. The won, at 1,321.76 per dollar (-0.32%), is the friendlier part.
My ledger just watches quietly
My disclosed holdings stand at KB Financial -16.6%, Hyundai Rotem -27.3%, PepsiCo +3.0% and Microsoft +34.8%. Those are accumulated figures, not today's move, and I'm not in the business of guessing what comes next.
Two things I'll watch into the close: whether foreign buying carries into KOSDAQ and trims the drop, or institutional selling deepens that -3.26%. I'll wait for the rebound the headlines describe to actually show up in the numbers.
