KOSDAQ down 1.34%, foreigners sold, and I quietly picked up 000810
Korean stocks tilted down today. KOSPI slid -0.77% and KOSDAQ dropped -1.34%. The smaller index took the harder hit.
Foreigners sold while institutions split
| Foreigners | Institutions | |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 172.1B won net sold | 71.9B won net bought |
| KOSDAQ | 58.7B won net sold | 19.5B won net sold |
On KOSPI, foreigners dumped 172.1 billion won, but institutions absorbed 71.9 billion, and that kept the drop to -0.77%. KOSDAQ was a different story. Foreigners sold 58.7 billion won, and institutions trimmed another 19.5 billion alongside them. With nobody there to catch it, the index fell 1.34%. That gap is how I read today.
The news and sector moves fit the picture. Talk of an "AI doomsday" swept the market, and copper/minerals and gold miners were weak. Cybersecurity and Cloud2 were strong. The whole market didn't collapse. Money left one corner and sat down in another. Brokerages naming their picks for next year's leaders "after Samsung and Hynix" tells the same story: everyone is hunting for the next seat.
In the big picture, this looks more like noise
The economy has two faces. Rate and credit pressure hasn't gone away, but FX and commodities are friendly. With that pressure still around, an occasional wobble in the index isn't strange. As long as FX and commodities hold up, though, I didn't read today's drop as a broken trend. The bigger the foreign selling, the calmer I try to get. A report that US corporate profits may rise 30%, concentrated in AI companies, sits well with another piece saying cash holders may find openings.
So I picked up 000810 today. I didn't sweep it up in a panic. I added one notch on a shaky day. This is a diary of a paper portfolio, not a word to anyone about what to do. Tomorrow I'll watch which way the flows turn.
