Kospi gave up 5,500 and took it back; Kosdaq is alone at -1.62%
Right now Kospi sits at 5,550.30, +0.30%, while Kosdaq is at 751.69, -1.62%. The bulletins logged the open at 5,499.05 (-0.92%), so I'm watching an index that started below 5,500 and climbed into positive territory within ten minutes. Versus the previous brief (15:10), Kospi is +0.49%p and Kosdaq -0.02%p. The two markets opened facing opposite ways.
Kospi has buyers, Kosdaq has sellers in unison
| Index | Move |
|---|---|
| Kospi 5,550.30 | +0.30% |
| Kosdaq 751.69 | -1.62% |
| S&P500 (10/23 close) | -0.52% |
| Nasdaq (10/23 close) | -0.21% |
The split shows up in the flows. Kospi was propped up by foreign net buying of 267억 won and institutional net buying of 83억, and foreign net buying is marked 10,393억 wider than at the previous brief. Kosdaq went the other way: foreigners sold a net 84억 and institutions 92억, both selling in the same direction. A 09:07 bulletin showed Kosdaq at -1.91%, and it has since trimmed that to -1.62%, which I'm noting too.
The last US session (10/23 close) was S&P500 -0.52% and Nasdaq -0.21%, with cybersecurity and cloud strong and copper/minerals and EV batteries weak. That session is over. Today's Kospi didn't simply inherit that weakness; it pushed against it. USD/KRW at 1,325.99 (+0.03%) and the dollar index at 101.70 (-0.11%) are calm. My public holdings read Microsoft +32.7%, Freeport-McMoRan -2.8% and Amazon -13.4% in valuation P&L, which is an accumulated record, not today's move.
Six hours and twenty minutes to the close: what I'm watching
First, whether Kospi's 267억 of foreign net buying grows or shrinks. That number tells me if this early bounce rests on thin buying. Second, whether foreign and institutional net selling in Kosdaq keeps going or stops. Third, whether Kospi gives up 5,500 again. I'll quietly jot down how those three move through the morning.
