Earnings pinned the worries down, and the tape is idling
Right now the US tape reads S&P 500 7,764.95 (+0.68%) and Nasdaq 26,745.93 (+1.22%). Against the previous brief at 01:40, the S&P 500 is +0.07%p higher and the Nasdaq is -0.03%p lower. The big picture hasn't moved, and I'm staring at the same board with 1 hour 50 minutes left to the close.
Where earnings sat on the AI jitters
I read today's lift as an earnings story. SpaceX's profit and Supermicro's results calmed the AI-spending worries, and since the Nasdaq opened at +0.45%, today's +1.22% has held that momentum rather well. The sector map tells a different tale, though: fintech and biotech are strong while AI and EV batteries lag, so the push didn't come only from the middle of AI. News that Korean AI-infrastructure debutant Elice's weak showing weighed on US AI cloud names like CoreWeave fits that picture.
| Index | Now | Change |
|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | 7,764.95 | +0.68% |
| Nasdaq | 26,745.93 | +1.22% |
The Korean session that has already ended (10/21 close) finished with KOSPI +3.29% and KOSDAQ +1.38%. The US is rising in the same direction, so it inherited the mood, but that is yesterday's settled record, not a number moving now. USD/KRW at 1,330.00 (-0.26%) and the dollar index at 101.73 (-0.25%) are both softer, which takes a little heat out of the board. My public holdings, valuation only: Poongsan -15.4%, KT&G +11.4%, PepsiCo Inc. +2.4%, Microsoft +34.8%.
For the remaining 1 hour 50 minutes I'm watching two things: whether the Nasdaq's +1.22% keeps standing despite weak AI and EV-battery names, or whether fintech and biotech fade and the gap to the S&P 500's +0.68% narrows. The SpaceX-Tesla merger talk is still just kindling, so until numbers confirm it rather than words, I'm keeping my seat in the stands.
