Nasdaq +1.22% While AI and Chips Lag: An Awkward Late-Session Bounce
It's 2:10 PM ET with 1 hour 50 minutes to the close, and the S&P 500 sits at 7,702.89 (+0.57%) while the Nasdaq is at 26,459.15 (+1.22%). Versus my last brief (01:40), the S&P 500 is down 0.05%p and the Nasdaq down 0.19%p. It's a green tape, but the first thing I noticed is the push fading bit by bit.
Index up, leaders left behind
The sector map explains it. Consumer staples and materials are strong right now, while AI and semiconductors lag. News keeps circling last week's 5.5% plunge in the Nasdaq 100, its worst weekly showing since April 2025, and a piece noted Treasuries bouncing on AI-spending jitters. A rebound after that drop is lifting the index, yet the AI crowd hasn't relaxed yet. To me, the bounce doesn't look especially sturdy.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|

| Nasdaq | 26,459.15 (+1.22%) |

| Dollar index | 101.84 (-0.16%) |
A second shadow: rates and the Fed
The dollar index is slightly softer at -0.16%, while USD/KRW edged up 0.12%. Meanwhile, President Trump has revived his push to remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook, and one commentary notes the Fed rate outlook flipping from cuts early in the year to hikes. Economic data is losing steam while rate and credit burdens linger, so even on a green day I don't feel easy. The Korean session that already closed, KOSPI +1.76% and KOSDAQ +1.78%, is a settled fact. Today's US tape inherited some of that warmth, but went against it in AI.
My public holdings stand at Poongsan -10.4%, KT&G +9.5%, Amazon.com Inc. -8.4%, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated -4.7%. Those are unrealized P&L, not today's moves. I'm just quietly watching them.
For the last 1 hour 50 minutes, I'm watching two things. First, whether the Nasdaq's +1.22% gets shaved further, continuing the -0.19%p drift from my last brief, or whether AI and chips climb out of weakness and refill the gain. Second, whether the Fed-governor fight and the rate chatter jolt the market again just before the close. This is a paper record, not investment advice.
