Forty minutes in, the early-morning weight is off and Nasdaq leads at +0.95%

Right now Nasdaq sits at 26,388.68, up 0.95%, and the S&P500 at 7,696.48, up 0.48%. Forty minutes after the open, my screen is green. Against the previous brief (04:40), the S&P500 moved +1.69%p and Nasdaq +3.25%p. Whatever was sitting on my chest in the early hours has lifted a layer.

Last week's AI beating met dip buyers

S&P5007,696.48 (+0.48%)
Nasdaq26,388.68 (+0.95%)
USD/KRW1,340.95 (+0.12%)
Dollar index101.84 (-0.16%)

I can boil the reason down to one thread. Last week's sharp fall in AI names rattled everyone, but before the open the major chip stocks were already rising on dip buying. The flash headline put Nasdaq up 1.00% and the S&P500 up 0.50%. The dollar index easing 0.16% took a little pressure off too.

The sector map is not pointing one way yet, though. On the US session so far, energy and consumer staples are strong while AI and EV batteries are weak. The index is up but the inside is split. The previous Korean session (10/19 close) is already finished: KOSPI +1.76%, KOSDAQ +1.78%. Today's US session did inherit that warmth, but it isn't coming from the real economy, where the indicators still feel like they're losing steam.

Six hours twenty minutes to the close: reading the texture of the bounce

Two things to watch. Does the bounce spread into AI and fill in the weak cells on the sector map, or does it stay parked in energy and staples? And does today's +0.95% hold into the late session? My public holdings stand at Coca-Cola Co +7.5%, Procter & Gamble +6.1%, HD Korea Shipbuilding -1.5% and Shinhan Financial -0.5%. That's not today's move, just the record as it stands.
