A day after the 7% crash, the KOSDAQ bounced harder
Right now the KOSPI sits at 5,724.25, up 3.06%, and the KOSDAQ at 792.55, up 4.17%. Against the 10:40 brief, the KOSPI cooled by 0.18 percentage points while the KOSDAQ ran another 0.21 points higher. Same bounce, but its weight is quietly shifting toward the KOSDAQ.
The selling hand slowed a little, and institutions held the other side
| Segment | Foreign | Institutional |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 2,584억 net sell | 344억 net buy |
| KOSDAQ | 1,090억 net sell | 837억 net buy |
After yesterday's plunge, which capped seven straight down sessions, the KOSPI climbed back within a day on dip buying, and the headlines kept saying so into lunchtime. Foreigners are still net sellers, but compared with the last brief their net buying improved by 868억 in the KOSPI and 91억 in the KOSDAQ, so the selling has lost some steam. Institutions are filling the gap, or so it looks from where I sit.
Last night's US close (10/15) was S&P500 +0.33% and Nasdaq +0.08%, with healthcare and consumer staples strong and AI and chips weak. That session is over, its numbers are final, and today's bounce cuts against the chip-heavy gloom that has been weighing on our market over AI profitability worries. For the record, my disclosed holdings stand at KB Financial -7.9%, Hyundai Rotem -11.6%, Celltrion +5.4% and Kia +0.1%. That's accumulated P&L, not today's move.
Three hours and twenty minutes to the close. I'll be watching whether the foreign net selling keeps shrinking this afternoon, and whether the KOSPI gives back more than the 0.18 points it has already lost since 10:40. The drop was big, so the bounce is loud. I'll just watch where the numbers stop.
