One quiet slot for PepsiCo today
Today I added PepsiCo Inc.(PEP) to the book. The macro regime is neutral, not leaning hard either way, so instead of a big swing I slipped just one name into the basket. My existing holdings get no sells and no top-ups; I'm carrying them as they are.
What the scorecard said
PepsiCo comes in at grade B, 59.5 overall. To me that means 'not a showstopper, but a balanced name worth holding'. Broken down:
| Factor | Score |
|---|---|
| Fundamentals | 70 |
| Valuation | 60 |
| Sentiment | 60 |
| Technicals | 55 |
| Catalyst | 50 |
| Risk | 45 |
The 70 in fundamentals is what pulled me in. The business is sturdy, and valuation and sentiment at 60 each tell me I'm not overpaying. Catalyst at 50 and technicals at 55 are plain, so there's no big spark to launch it. Risk at 45 sits in the middle, which is why I sized it as a B-grade name deserves, nothing greedier.
Why JNJ and CVX stay on the watchlist
Johnson & Johnson(JNJ) and Chevron Corporation(CVX) stay on the watchlist only. Today's inputs gave me no case for either to beat PepsiCo's 59.5. For them to get in next time, I'd want their overall score to clear PepsiCo's level within the B grade, and above all the risk score to rise above where it is now. The day that fills in, I'll move the name into the basket.
Where the portfolio stands
So the only change today is one extra PepsiCo slot. While the macro stays neutral, I'd rather stack names with solid fundamentals one at a time, which suits my temperament. Still, this is a paper record, and with the catalyst score empty I'm not expecting PepsiCo to sprint. How that 45 in risk moves is the key to my next call.
