A flat tape hiding a split between cloud and chips
The S&P 500 barely moved today (+0.01%) and the Nasdaq inched up (+0.22%) — quiet on the surface, but underneath, sectors were pulling in opposite directions. Cloud names carried the tape higher while semiconductors and utilities dragged it back down, and the two roughly canceled each other out. On the single-stock front, Reddit tumbled 11% even after beating estimates, spooked by "choppy" search referral trends — a reminder of just how unforgiving the market's gotten with growth stories these days. Word that Kospi shook off its recent crash-panic and turned positive fits into that same theme of global markets settling down. Zooming out, exports and employment still look solid and the currency/commodity backdrop stays friendly, so I'd read today less as a warning sign and more as the market catching its breath. I didn't put any money to work today — just watching the tug-of-war between warm cloud names and cold chip names, waiting for a clearer signal.
